UPDATE : August 23, 2016 – The cause of yesterday’s loss of phone service was due to a damaged fiber-optic cable providing service for Frontier Communications. Multiple agencies including Bear Valley Electric Service, Southwest Gas, Frontier, and CalTrans are working on projects on Big Bear Boulevard. Yesterday early afternoon, a third-party construction contractor was digging equipment and damaged the underground fiber optic cable on Big Bear Boulevard near Stanfield Cutoff causing a temporary interruption of telecommunication service for Frontier’s customers. Frontier technicians responded to assess the damage and restore service. All services were restored by 5:11pm. If Frontier customers are still without service or are in need of assistance, residential customers should call 800-921-8101 and business customers should call 800-921-8102.
Big Bear, CA, August 22, 2016 – According to Fire Chief Jeff Willis, Frontier Communications landlines are not working. The cause for this interruption of service is unknown. Local fire authorities are working on a solution. If you have an emergency, call 911 on either a cell phone or Charter Communications internet phone.
