Big Bear Valley, CA — U.S. Forest Service Road 3N14, located just north of Fawnskin, reopened to the public today, per an announcement from Mountaintop District Ranger Scott Tangenberg. The popular forest road, which links Big Bear Lake’s North Shore to Big Pine Flats and Holcomb Valley, had been closed since October 2007, after the Butler and Butler #2 Fires. Though 3N14 is now open to the public, several other forest roads north of Fawnskin—including 2N13, 3N08 and 3N93—remain closed due to large numbers of standing dead trees along the roadways. The U.S. Forest Service reminds the public to always stay on forest system roads, and reminds those recreating on the San Bernardino National Forest not to drive off-road. Those with questions on current road conditions on the forest can call the Big Bear Discovery Center at 866-3437.
