In September, the San Bernardino National Forest began a number of road reconstruction projects in the Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead areas, given federal funding provided to enhance water quality through the reduction of erosion and sedimentation in forest streams and waterways. These Forest Service road projects will continue into the spring, though a few local roads will be closed periodically over the next several weeks for major repair work; those roads include 3N16 in the Holcomb Valley area, 3N12 near Delamar Mountain, and 2N09 in Polique Canyon. In addition to intermittent closures of these three routes, when open, visitors to the forest may encounter heavy equipment working in these areas at any time so proceed with caution if traveling 3N16, 3N12 or 2N09. The Forest Service asks that visitors please obey all road closures and caution signs; for more information, call the Big Bear Discovery Center at 866-3437.
