Can you find the fire hydrant on your street? If it is buried under snow, the Big Bear Valley Fire Safe Council–on behalf of the Big Bear City, Big Bear Lake and Fawnskin Fire Departments—asks that you take the time to be sure it is cleared of snow, ice and debris. There are about 3,000 fire hydrants in the Big Bear Valley, and precious moments spent locating them buried in snow could make the difference in sparing a home, or life, during an emergency. If the fire hydrant in your neighborhood is leaking, report it immediately to your local water provider or fire department as leaking hydrants are prone to freezing. If taking the time to remove snow from your nearby fire hydrant, the Fire Safe Council suggests clearing a three-foot radius.
