Fawnskin, CA, October 19, 2012, 6am – A “Feast” of Native American culture will be presented and celebrated at the 12th annual Feast of the Harvest Moon festival. Traditionally, the Feast of the Harvest Moon was celebrated among American Indian tribes when the period of darkness between sunset and moonrise is successively shorter following the Harvest Moon nearest the September equinox and the Hunter’s Moon in October. A favorite of the youth leadership program of the National Forest Association, they plan and stage activities to educate families interested in hands-on learning of American Tribes history including the role of the indigenous people, the Serrano, of the San Bernardino highlands and mountains. Admission and parking are free at the Feast of the Harvest Moon Festival on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the Big Bear Discovery Center from 10am to 2pm.
