Fawnskin, CA — It was just about a week ago, in the early morning hours of April 7, that Highway 38 was closed for several hours, as firefighters from Fawnskin station #49 of the San Bernardino County Fire Department, as well as firefighters with the Big Bear Lake and Big Bear City Fire Departments and even the volunteers of County Fire’s Baldwin Lake station, battled a blaze in Fawnskin. The structure fire took place just off the highway along the North Shore, at 408 Pine Hill Drive just west of Windy Point, and resulted in total destruction to the second home, also a government lease cabin of the San Bernardino National Forest. The part-time residents, who had been remodeling the cabin, were not there at the time of the fire so though the blaze resulted in total destruction, there were no associated injuries. No damages estimate, in terms of financial loss, has yet been released as both the San Bernardino County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments are still working on the investigation. Detective Steve Scovel of the Bomb/Arson Detail of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says that the cause of the Fawnskin structure fire is still undetermined, though investigators do not believe that this incident was intentional or arson.
