Big Bear, CA, October 11, 2016 – It’s not often that one gets noticed for their positive feats and impact on the community. But each year, Senator Mike Morrell calls attention to iconic women in the 23rd Senate District who are exemplary figures within the towns and cities they live through the Women of Distinction Awards.
This year’s ceremony and dinner on Oct. 7 recognized three finalists from Big Bear Valley, alongside other women from the district: Dena Arbaugh, Big Bear Middle School principal; Linda Ricchiuti, owner of The Copper Q; and Pamela Scannell, executive director of the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce. Scannell was named the Woman of Distinction for the Big Bear area.
“I am honored to be named Woman of Distinction for this community I so dearly love,” Scannell said. “I was very humbled to share a room with women who have done so many amazing things for the communities they live in.”
Arbaugh, Ricchiuti and Scannell also received recognition from California State Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, California State Assembly and the City of Big Bear Lake.
“Too often, these quiet acts of service go unnoticed,” Senator Morrell said. “The annual Women of Distinction Ceremony is a tradition here, in the Inland Empire, recognizing the accomplishments of women from across the region and the positive impact they make. They represent the best of the 23rd Senate District, and it is my privilege to shine a spotlight on their successes and willingness to serve others.”
An annual tradition for 12 years and counting, and in honor of Women’s History Month, the Women of Distinction Awards invites nominations of women who have a strong dedication to making a difference through acts of service, philanthropic efforts or other demonstrations of commitment to their communities. These women must also reside within the district, which includes Big Bear Valley.
