The Event Resource Office of Big Bear Valley presented an executive summary of visitor economic impact in relation to 2010 Big Bear Special Events. The study focused on 18 events including the Amgen Tour of California: Big Bear Climb, 4th of July Fireworks, Antique Car Club Fun Run, Oktoberfest, and Open Air Big Bear’s Endure the Bear. Each event was surveyed with the same series of questions, inquiring if the visitor stayed overnight, ate out at restaurants, how many people came with them, and if they came to Big Bear Primarily for the event. The 2010 study found that 52% of visitors were women, and 48% were men, and that one third of the event attendees came from San Bernardino County areas, with another third coming from the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. The survey also found that 75% of event attendees were visitors, and that 79% of those visitors came to Big Bear primarily for the event. Rick Bates the Director for the Events Resource Office told KBHR that these events are bringing people to Big Bear who have never been here before. For these 18 events the total visitor economic impact was $8,746,330.
