Emergency crews were called for a snow-prompted roof collapse in the Fox Farm area just before 6pm this evening. Local fire departments, as well as the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, are on scene at Juniper and Silver Pick in Big Bear Lake, where a roof collapsed due to heavy snow accumulation and, per Big Bear Lake Fire Chief Rod Ballard, a 15-year-old boy is reportedly pinned under the collapse though, per reports, is conscious. Once retrieved from under the heavy snow of the roof, the boy will be airlifted for medical treatment.
This serves as a reminder to all homeowners, that heavy snow accumulation can result in the collapse of roofs, so when it is safe to do so, shovel snow from your roof.
Again, in you have seen emergency personnel, including Sheriff’s vehicles, paramedics and firetrucks, they are attending to a 15-year-old boy who was pinned under a roof, which collapsed due to snow in the Fox Farm area of Big Bear Lake.
Update as of 6:30pm: Per Big Bear Lake Fire personnel, the boy was safely recovered, and is being transported for medical treatment.
Update: The boy made it to Loma Linda (via helicopter), where he received medical care. The fire department tells KBHR that he was not a local boy, but was visiting the Big Bear Valley.
