Drivers Reminded to Slow for the Cone Zone; Big Bear Boulevard Crack Seal Project Wraps (Now) Monday

Big Bear Lake, CA — CalTrans crews will continue crack seal work along Big Bear Boulevard today (Thursday, June 3), and motorists can expect delays between Stanfield Cutoff and Pine Knot Avenue until 3pm this afternoon. This project has resulted in a reduced number of lanes for vehicles on the Boulevard, and drivers are reminded to “slow for the cone zone.” In the first two days of the project, tickets have been written for those who did not proceed safely through the work area and, to that end, two California Highway Patrol escort cars will be used today. Drivers are asked to pay particular attention to signage, per a request from CalTrans; extra caution should be used when entering a work portion of the Boulevard from a driveway or side street, and remember that traffic fines can be doubled in a work zone. The CalTrans crack seal project on Big Bear Boulevard within the City of Big Bear Lake is anticipated to be completed later today.
Update: This project will continue through Friday, June 4, with work hours scheduled for 8am to 3pm. Additional crack seal work will be done on Saturday, June 5 on Highway 38, on the North Shore portion in front of the Big Bear Discovery Center.
Update as of Friday at 8am: The Big Bear Boulevard project will continue through Monday, June 7 (though will not include the weekend). The North Shore project on Saturday will take place from 7am to 3pm, and will result in a closure in front of the Discovery Center (though it is National Trails Day for the San Bernardino National Forest). CalTrans says that detours will be available on Highway 38.
Update as of Friday at 10am: CalTrans will hold closure on Highway 38 for another day, due to a number of activities taking place in the area on Saturday, June 5.
