Big Bear Lake, CA, February 12, 2013 – According to the Press Enterprise all mountain roads are closed, including Highway 18, 330 and Highway 38,” Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said. “No one’s coming off the mountain and no one’s getting off.”
No injuries have been reported.
Shortly after 12:30, a woman called to report she was tied up and there were two other people inside the home. As sheriff’s deputies responded, shots were heard in the area and a stolen white Dodge pickup was seen fleeing the area.
Sheriff’s officials found a white pickup truck with a sniper rifle in the backseat, according to sheriff’s dispatchers. The pickup was described as a camp truck from Camp Tahquitz.
Police searched the home, where no hostages were found. The suspect was described as having a silenced handgun.
River Road is blocked off Highway 38 and all other roads are being blocked down the mountain
Dispatchers also found smoke grenades in the area.
Highway 38 is now closed. Authorities believe the vehicle was heading toward Highway 38 from Glass Road.
The vehicle is a Dodge white 2008 4-door pickup.
Fish and Game units were shot at and returned fire.
