San Bernardino National Forest, CA, September 25, 2013 — Early this morning, a male motorist was driving a silver Ford Fusion west on State Route 38, approximately 1.7 miles east of Bryant Street, at an unknown speed. For reasons still under investigation, the driver failed to negotiate a curve within the roadway and continued straight up a small embankment. According to a CHP press release, the Ford lunged over the top of the embankment and came to rest in a ditch that runs along the north side of SR 38 on the opposite side of the embankment.
At approximately 12:49 p.m., a passing tow truck driver observed the vehicle’s roof. The tow truck driver stopped along the side of the road to investigate and immediately notified 911 upon discovery of the driver and his vehicle.
Upon arrival of emergency crews, the driver was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. Preliminary evidence indicates that the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.
This collision is still under investigation, and the driver’s Identity is being withheld pending notification of kin.
