Big Bear City, CA February 9, 2015 – At approximately 7:20 p.m. on Monday 02/09/15, Suspect Travest Hill carjacked the owner of a halfway house for parolees in the City of San Bernardino. Hill is a resident of the facility and on parole for assault with a deadly weapon. Hill assaulted the victim, hitting her repeatedly on her face and head with a rock or brick.
Following the carjacking, Suspect Hill drove the stolen vehicle towards the Big Bear area on SR-18 from Lucerne Valley and crashed near Mile Marker 63, close to the Mitsubishi Plant. Shortly after 9:00 p.m., a second victim saw the crashed vehicle while driving up SR-18 and stopped to assist Hill. Hill struck the victim in the head multiple times in an unsuccessful attempt to take the victim’s car keys. The victim was able to get away from Hill on foot and flagged down an off –duty CHP Officer for assistance. The victim was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center to receive medical treatment for injuries sustained during the attempted carjacking.
Suspect Hill fled on foot near the area at Call Box 622 (straightaway near Cactus Flats). Deputies on the ground and from the Sheriff’s Aviation Division, conducted a thorough check of the area on foot and by helicopter throughout the night, but were unable to locate Hill.
The search for Travest Hill resumed this morning, Tuesday morning. Big Bear deputies located Hill walking near the intersection of North Shore Drive and Sierra Avenue in Big Bear City shortly before 8:00 a.m. Hill was taken into custody without incident and booked on felony charges of parole violation, assault with a deadly weapon, and attempted carjacking. Hill may also face additional charges. He remains in custody in lieu of $125,000 bail.
