Big Bear Lake, 2013— Bear Valley Unified has become the latest California school district to build a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station at its transportation facility. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for August 22nd at 4:00 p.m. at 44548 Baldwin Lane Road in Sugarloaf.
The District’s present fleet of school buses now includes five that run on CNG; through further grants, eventually all 19 buses will be converted to natural gas.
Compressed Natural Gas as a transportation fuel dates back to World War II, with the U.S. now leading the world in natural gas reserves. Today, natural gas is used extensively in public transit and in municipal fleets. California currently has 140 public CNG fueling sites and 200 private fleet sites, while there are more than 1,300 nationwide.
