The Big Bear Lake International Film Festival is pleased to announce that the 2009 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Cinematography is Philippe Rousselot. The award will be presented on Friday, September 18th, 2009 at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center.
Rousselot, Cinematographer for the upcoming film ‘Sherlock Holmes’, boasts an impressive record of films including: ‘A River Runs through It’, ‘Interview With a Vampire’, ‘Hope and Glory’, ‘The Tailor of Panama’, ‘Big Fish’, ‘Henry and June’, ‘Planet of The Apes’, ‘Constantine’, and ‘Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’.
“I saw Philippe’s French film ‘Diva’ my first year in college and have been a fan ever since,” said Film Festival President Ty Warren. “To be able to present him with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his incredible body of work is a true honor. Each year our film festival honors the amazing talents of gifted cinematographers and this year we are thrilled to have one of the best.”
Rousselot was born in Meurthe-et-Moselle France in 1945. He set his viewfinder on cinematography at the Vaugrirard National Film School in France. After graduating, he was involved with the French New Wave movement, and rode the crest into his first cinematographer credit at age 25. Rousselot went on to win 3 César awards (‘Diva’, ‘La reine Margot’, ‘Thérèse’), 1 Oscar (‘A River Runs Through It’) and 2 Oscar nominations (‘Henry & June’, ‘Hope and Glory’), in addition to top brizes from the British Society of Cinematographers, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and the National Society of Film Critics, USA.
The Big Bear Lake International Film Festival attracts an average of 5,000 attendees to its scenic location yearly and will be celebrating its 10th anniversary at this year’s event September 18th – 20th, 2009 — plus a pre-festival outdoor screening/pet show at the Discovery Center on September 17. The Festival screens independent feature length films, student films, shorts, animation and documentaries to showcase emerging film and screenwriting talent.
