Two days of sunshine have resulted in the lifting of chain requirements on most roads in our area—with the exception of Highway 38 and the North Shore portion of 38, from Angelus Oaks and including Bear City west to the Big Bear dam. R2 chain controls mean that you must have chains on the drive wheels of your vehicle, unless in a four-wheel drive with snow tires on all four wheels and carrying chains. Also, a heads up if traveling along Big Bear Boulevard in the Big Bear City area today: the Water Department of the Big Bear City Community Services District is repairing a water main leak in the Deadman’s Curve area, between Pineview Drive and Dawn Drive, so the west bound lane on the Boulevard is closed; the eastbound lane over Deadman’s Curve will remain open during the water main repair. Drivers in the Big Bear City area can detour to the north, along Aeroplane, or take the North Shore if headed westbound toward Big Bear Lake—but, just a note, if on the North Shore portion of Highway 38, chains are still required for those in two-wheel drive vehicles. As road conditions change, see our Big Bear Roads Page for updates.
Update: Repair work on water main line completed at 3:30pm; Big Bear Boulevard re-opened to all traffic.
