CalTrans has two road projects planned for San Bernardino mountain routes next week, the first of which gets underway Monday, November 9, between Big Bear Lake and Running Springs. The 30-day pavement rehabilitation project, which is being implemented with $1.18 million in federal stimulus funding, is on Highway 18, from Lakeview Point on Arctic Circle (just above Snow Valley) to the junction of Highway 330 (in Running Springs). Work hours on this Highway 18 project are from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, and will include Veterans Day on November 11. Per a CalTrans statement, be prepared to add an additional 20 minutes to your commute (in addition to delays up to 20 minutes at the Big Bear Dam on Highway 18); traffic will be escorted by pilot car. On Tuesday, November 10, CalTrans crews will also be doing patch work on Highway 330, so expect the number two lane in the uphill direction to be closed, though one lane will be available.
