The hills will be alive with music, come Thursday evening, as BVUSD students provide two opportunities to enjoy holiday music. As previously announced, the Concert Band, Concert Choir, Jazz Band and selected soloists from Big Bear High School present their Winter Concert on December 3; the 7:30pm concert at the Performing Arts Center is $5 for general admission and proceeds benefit the high school’s Performing Arts Club. Also on Thursday, from 5 to 8pm, 5th through 10th grade students will be performing during a dinner fundraiser at Hacienda Grill on behalf of the Steven G. Mihaylo Orchestra. Director Sharon Rizzo tells KBHR that these strings and orchestra students, representing all three elementaries, BBMS and the high school, will perform during dinner service at the Hacienda Grill, located at 41787 Big Bear Boulevard in Big Bear Lake, and restaurant owners Gus and Nancy Gonzalez will donate a percentage of Thursday’s proceeds to the orchestra program. Rizzo notes that about $6,000 is needed to allow for 48 students to travel to orchestra competitions in the spring which, last year, resulted in first and second place trophies for the BVUSD groups.
