Big Bear, Ca, April 7, 2011, 12:00pm –Matt Smith, from Big Bear Vacations and all around active guy, has started a new group in the Big Bear Valley focusing on climbing and bouldering. Bouldering is a style of rock climbing done without a rope, and normally limited to very short climbs over a bouldering mat, or crash pad. “We started the group to give people information about bouldering,” said Smith. “This group is a way for those interested in climbing or bouldering to easily approach a group of people, and it will bring people together.” The group is meant to be for a full range of experience from beginner to advanced, and everyone is invited to try what Smith referred to as a very social activity. The group will be meeting every Tuesday and Thursday in April at 4:30 in the Von’s parking lot. The group will carpool from there to one of the various locations around Big Bear that include the Northshore Boulders, Backside Boulders in the Cactus Flats area, Holcomb Valley, and Castle Rock. Smith suggests that you wear comfortable athletic clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and sturdy shoes as hiking may be involved.
