After weeks of fun events and fundraising, there are just two more activities planned in the Soroptimists’ Man About Town campaign, from which all proceeds will be directed to the effort to stop teen violence in the Big Bear Valley. Between the three Man About Town candidates—Ace Evers, Phil Hamilton and Paul Ortuno—there has been a sock hop, a casino night, miniature golfing, wine tasting, taco nights, and a Wii party, among other activities. The candidate who has generated the most money will, next Friday the 24th, be crowned Big Bear’s 16th Man About Town in the grand finale event at Big Bear High School. This family event will feature the Harlem Ambassadors in a basketball game; each candidate will play a quarter with their team, and the Soroptimists’ team, “the Basket Cases”, will also play. Pre-sale tickets, at $10 each, are available at Phil’s Automotive, Haus & Home, Interiors and BBHS; tickets will also be available at the door, at $12 each, for the April 24 event at the high school, which begins at 7pm. Before the big finale, though, candidate Paul Ortuno hosts one more event, which takes place tomorrow (April 18) at Bear Mountain Resort. Ortuno, chef at the former Iron Squirrel Restaurant, will prepare a six-course Country-French meal. A limited number of tickets are still available, at $150 per person, by calling Ellen Nichols at 585-7161.
