Big Bear, Ca, December 13, 2011, 12:00pm – With statewide budget cuts to education over the last few years, extra curricular programs such as the Big Bear Elementary Strings program have not received funding, resulting in the need to self fund the program. The program costs 30,000 annually, and serves over 100 young students in the Big Bear Valley. Many fundraisers for the strings program have been held this year, resulting in about half of the needed funds to keep the program operating. Tomorrow / Today there will be a fundraiser for the strings program, in which all contributions up to $5,000 will be matched by James Ramos, which could possibly result in $10,000 towards the program. Ramos is the head of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, and also serves on the Community College Board, and the Statewide Board of Education, and is running for County Supervisor for the third district in the 2012 election. The fundraiser will be held from 6-8pm tomorrow/ today at the home of Dana and Simeon Prophet. To RSVP, or to make a donation contact Tracy Walton at (909) 585-1786.
