The Big Bear High School football teams didn’t claim victory in Saturday’s games, though the varsity squad did lead San Jacinto at the start of the fourth quarter, but ultimately finished 41-23. “Candyland”-themed homecoming festivities at Minder Field included Bears alumni, in town for 10, 20 and 30-year reunions, and the crowning of homecoming queen Lauren Schour, daughter of Steve and Lisa Schour, who has lived in Big Bear her entire life and plans to attend Chapman University, and play collegiate volleyball, after graduating in 2010. Big Bear High School senior Jessica Lewis also had a winning weekend, having taken top honors in Friday’s Battle of the Bands, in a vocal performance that has been described as stunning. In other news from Our House, as outlined by Bears Athletic Director Dave Griffiths at the homecoming pep assembly, the Lady Bears golf team hosts Citrus Valley at Bear Mountain Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon, the BBHS cross-county team hosts De Anza League Meet #1 at Snow Summit on Thursday at 3:15pm, and both girls volleyball and tennis teams begin league play on Friday, with three matchups to take place at Big Bear High. Bears football returns to Minder Field at BBMS next Saturday, October 3, with 10:45am and 1:30pm games against Oak Hills.
