Big Bear, CA, August 11, 2016 – On Tuesday, August 9, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a Pomona man reported his wife missing. The family of the victim provided information which led to the discovery of the victim’s vehicle on Forest Service road 2N15 (Glory Ridge) at about 8:00 p.m. Deputies, including a bloodhound and helicopter, conducted an initial search but were unable to locate the victim.
In the morning hours of August 10, Bear Valley Search & Rescue responded to the scene and initiated a full search of the area. BVSAR located the victim at the bottom of the canyon near Bear Creek. The victim, who was unprepared for a long hike, was unharmed after spending the night near the creek. She was not strong enough or prepared to make the return trip back up the steep terrain to her vehicle on Tuesday night, especially in the dark.
The victim was hoisted and airlifted to the Big Bear Airport by a Sheriff Department helicopter and reunited with her family.
