UPDATE: Big Bear, CA March 20, 2015 5:55 PM – Detectives of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station have thoroughly investigated the attempted kidnapping that was reported yesterday. On 03/20/15, additional interviews were conducted and surveillance video from residences near the incident location was recovered and reviewed. Based upon the evidence to date, it has been determined by the Sheriff’s Department that the attempted kidnapping that was reported did not occur. The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station appreciates the quick response from Valley residents in providing tips and leads that assisted in this
investigation.
Big Bear, CA, March 20, 2015 8:30 AM – Yesterday, deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of an attempted kidnapping that occurred on Wednesday, March 18, in the vicinity of Highway 18 near Third Street in Baldwin Lake. Two unknown subjects driving in a black sedan stopped a 12 year old female juvenile while she was walking home from her bus stop after school. A male passenger opened his door and asked the victim where she was going. The victim ran to her residence and the male subject chased after her. Once the victim was safely inside her house, the male subject ran back to the vehicle and the car fled westbound on Highway 18.
The passenger is described as a white male adult, mid 30s, 5’8″-5’10” tall with a thin build, and a blond ‘faux-hawk’ style haircut. The victim could not describe the driver. Anyone having information regarding this incident is requested to contact the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station at (909)866-0100. Parents are encouraged to talk with their kids about personal safety issues in a manner that is age appropriate for the child.
