Big Bear, Ca, November 30, 2010, 8:00am – The Big Bear Discovery Center announced today that Art Voltz has been named Volunteer of the Year. “I love talking to people and it keeps me busy,” Voltz said. “You can’t sit in front of the TV all day after you retire, you have to get out and talk to people.” Voltz has been an active member of the volunteer community throughout the valley since he moved to the area. He has volunteered as a fire lookout host at Butler Peak, a docent for the Historical Society Museum, an active member of the North Shore Improvement Association and in charge of the CERT program’s Fawnskin Division. Voltz is a California native and was a Firefighter for 28 years, Voltz moved to Fawnskin after retiring from the Glendale Fire Department in 1986, but his love for Bear Valley started when he first camped on the North Shore with his family in 1962.
