Big Bear Lake, CA, July 14, 2016 – The Adult Learning and Referral Center, located at Community Church Big Bear, opened it’s doors in October of 2015. The program was sponsored by the Big Bear Hummingbird Project, a nonprofit 501(c) 3. They also received a $5,000.00 grant provided by Third District Supervisor James Ramos to help provide free classes such as GED, English as a Second Language and provide class scholarships to low income adults for job training classes. Due to lack of interest, the Center will be closing on July 31, 2016.
In June, 2015, a survey was conducted and everyone who answered the survey was excited that there would be a place where they could go learn computer technology; learn to prepare resumes, guidance in how to prepare for a job interview, how to research for jobs, how to fill out a job application online and even obtain a GED. However, although they offered low cost or free classes in everything from Basic Computer Skills to Upholstery, there was limited interest from the adult community in Big Bear.
Elaine Tennity and Yomar Cleary who spearheaded this adult learning program wish to “Thank” the volunteer instructors who gave of their time and energy to conduct these classes.
