San Bernardino County, January 10, 2014 – Whether you want to drive 25 miles to the nearest campus or learn online from the comfort of home, you’ll find lots of classes to choose from during the spring semester at local colleges.
Start dates at San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) and Crafton Hills College (CHC) are coming up fast on January 13, but there is still time to apply for admission and financial aid. And because the San Bernardino Community College District is offering about 140 additional sections this year, there are still seats available in many classes.
Chancellor Bruce Baron explained, “Although for several years, we were cutting back on our course offerings, this year is different. First the voters approved Prop 30 which allowed us to add additional seats, and then our Board of Trustees went even further. They addressed some of the pent-up demand by providing additional funding, above what the state is supporting. This additional funding will allow us to offer classes for almost 6% more students than last year. But, I would remind everyone- classes fill up fast, so don’t delay. Go online and register as soon as possible.”
Community colleges like SBVC and CHC provide a many options to students of all ages: continuing education/enrichment, vocational training for a new job or a career change, two-year associate degrees, and transfer courses leading to a four-year university.
In the high desert, Victor Valley College offers the same benefits, with courses running the full spectrum from Agriculture to Restaurant Management, and French to Theater. Registration for new students is ongoing through February 2.
On the quarter system, Cal State San Bernardino starts their spring term April 1; open enrollment begins March 4.
