Redlands, CA, November 13, 2013 – After nine years in the legislature, State Senator Bill Emmerson is resigning his seat effective December 1. The 68-year-old Redlands Republican cited waning passion and commitment on his part as reasons for leaving the Democratic-controlled body.
Emmerson was elected to the California State Assembly in 2004 and was honored as an Outstanding Assembly Member four times before his election to the State Senate in 2010.
Emmerson presided over the 23rd Senate District, which covers parts of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including Big Bear Lake.
According to the Sacramento Bee, potential replacements include Assemblymen Mike Morrell (R-Rancho Cucamonga) and Tim Donnelly (R-Twin Peaks). With the speculation surrounding the vacant seat, County Supervisor James Ramos issued a statement affirming his commitment to serving as Supervisor.
