Big Bear Lake, CA, November 8, 2013 – San Bernardino County Animal Care and Control will recognize U.S. veterans with free pet adoptions November 9 – 17, through the “Pets 2 Vets” program. There is a limit of 2 adoptions per qualified veteran.
An extra bargain is being offered tomorrow: the “Animals Are First Fund” will pay for the vaccination, and the spay or neuter fees for the first 250 adoptions made to qualified military veterans at San Bernardino County operated animal shelters — including the Big Bear Animal Shelter at 42080 North Shore Drive. The shelter can be reached at (909) 866-4943 during business hours, which are 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Tuesday and Thursday – Saturday; noon – 2:00 and 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.
To participate, veterans need to provide one form of valid military identification, such as a Veterans Identification Card, VA Health Card, Department of Defense/Uniformed Services ID Card, Disabled American Veterans Life Member ID Card, American Legion ID Card, DD-214 form, a Disabled Veteran California State Park and Recreation Pass, or a letter from the San Bernardino County Office of Veterans Affairs.
Brian Cronin, Chief of San Bernardino County Animal Care and Control, called the program “a wonderful opportunity to match pets that need homes with deserving military veterans who would appreciate companionship.”
