Big Bear Lake, CA, September 18, 2013 – A traditional Hawaiian Luau at a lakeside home is the setting for the Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake’s 2nd annual fundraiser for Rotary International. The event is to be held on September 19 at the Bremer residence (140 Round Drive at the end of Gilner Point in Big Bear Lake). Wine tasting and socializing begins at 5:00 p.m. with the dinner following at 6:00 p.m. This event is open to the general public, and guests are encouraged to dress in Hawaiian style. Funds raised will support the Paul Harris Awards, named for the man who founded Rotary in 1905. The Paul Harris Award recognizes those who make a tax deductible contribution of at least $1000 to the Rotary International Foundation for such projects as Polio Plus (the program to eradicate polio worldwide), Humanitarian Grants (for water, waste water and infrastructure improvements) and other charitable activities around the world. Donors can be recognized as Paul Harris Fellows and will receive a commemorative certificate and pin.
Locally, the Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake gives back to the community in a variety of ways, including producing the annual fireworks show and the Rotary Santa Claus program, underwriting thousands of dollars in scholarships, and providing free meals throughout the district. Traditional Hawaiian cuisine will be donated by Don and Carol Bremer, with additional food provided by Barnstorm Restaurant owner Renee Wagner. Dinner will be followed by a 50/50 drawing, a live auction of door prizes, a wine auction, and recognition of Paul Harris Fellows. Dinner will be both in the house and out on the grounds, so jackets or sweaters are recommended. The cost of the dinner is $30 payable at the door in cash or check (payable to the Rotary Foundation).
