Big Bear Lake, CA, August 16, 2013 – Retired Marine Corps CH-46 pilot Jennifer Marino is riding her bike across the United States in honor of all Gold Star Families, who have lost a son or daughter in service of our country. Marino completed more than 15 years of service herself. Combining her goal of riding cross-country with her desire to celebrate and remember the lives of fallen heroes, she will visit gold star families from coast to coast, learn their stories, and share them with others.
The entire journey will include 17 states over 77 days, with a stop in Big Bear today through Sunday. On Saturday, August 17th, she will ride around Big Bear Lake in honor of 1st. Lt. Jared M. Landaker. Marino invites others to ride with her to honor fallen service members. She and Joe Landaker will start the ride at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pedal Path entrance at the north end of Stanfield Cutoff. They’ll then ride to Fawnskin for breakfast before proceeding to Jared Landaker’s memorial sign near Bear Valley dam, then continue around the lake.
Cyclists can feel free to join in at any stop along the way; Marino can be reached at (760) 622-6544.
