Big Bear Lake, CA, February 7, 2013 – The 14th Annual Rotary District 5330 Music Competition provides a platform for high school musicians to perform and, for many, advance their career opportunities. The competition is created for three categories – pianist, vocalist and instrumentalist. Prizes of up to $1,000 are awarded in each category at the District Level. Eight years ago, the Big Bear chapter created “Big Bear Idol” which has vocal and instrumental categories. First place prize winners are given $150, second place, $100, and third place $50. The elegant evening competition is held at the Performing Arts Center on the Main Stage. Judges gave written comments and scores to all contestants involved. The vocal judges, none of whom were known to the contestants, were brought up from the Music Department of the University of Redlands for the event. On February 2, there were 13 vocal competitors and 3 instrumental string competitors. Approximately 250 were in the audience, cheering them on.
