San Bernardino, CA, December 19, 2012 – Twenty years ago a group of people came together with a shared vision. They saw a new way of collaborating to support Southern California’s mountain forests. The visionaries grappling with the problem generated a groundbreaking idea to create a non-profit to support the work of the Forest Service in the San Bernardino National Forest, and the San Bernardino National Forest Association was born. The core activities of the San Bernardino National Forest Association have made a critical difference over the past 20 years: staffing fire lookouts, interpreting the forest to visitors at the Big Bear Discovery Center, supporting recreation for families, and educating mountain communities about fire safety. As the activities of the San Bernardino National Forest Association have expanded, the size, strength, and role of the organization has grown and evolved. The San Bernardino National Forest Association has renewed its brand and now has a new name, The Southern California Mountains Foundation. The organization’s structure and contacts will remain the same. For more information visit the new Mountains Foundation web site – www.MountainsFoundation.org.
