The 12th Annual Big Bear Lake Shoreline Cleanup took place this past Saturday, resulting in 902 pounds of trash being collected. Volunteers totally over 145 people came together to clean up the shore line, and for the first time, the lake as well. Groups from Mountain Fitness Center and the North Shore Trading Company took to the lake to on kayaks and stand up paddle boards to collect trash floating in the lake. Of the trash collected 767 pounds was trash, and 135 pounds was recyclable. According to event coordinator Alan Sharp of Big Bear Marina, over the past 12 years 15,665 pounds of trash and 2,398 pounds of recyclables have been collected, resulting in 18,063 pounds of debris that has been removed from our Big Bear Lake shoreline. In an email to Alan Sharp from the general manager of the Municipal Water District Scott Heule, Sharp and all of the volunteers were congratulated on a job well done with Heule stating, “Please be sure everyone knows how much the District appreciates your coordination of this event and the hard work the volunteers have done.”
