Big Bear Lake, CA, March 10, 2016 – According to the Big Bear Sheriff’s Department, shortly after 10:00 a.m. on March 9th, deputies from the Sheriff’s Station responded to a reported fight at Serrano Campground near Big Bear City. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the involved parties and determined that five male adults who had been camping together got into a verbal argument at the campsite. The argument escalated and turned physical when one of the males, identified as 20-year old Chan Kim, picked up a shovel and hit the victim, 19-year old Shervin Mostashari, in the ear. Kim then made threatening statements and stabbed the victim multiple times in the torso with a pocketknife. As a result of the altercation, the victim sustained a moderate cut to his ear and superficial lacerations to his torso through the several layers of heavy clothing he was wearing. The victim refused medical attention at the scene, and later drove himself to Bear Valley Community Hospital for treatment. Suspect Kim was detained without incident and booked into the Big Bear Jail on a felony charge of attempted murder. Chan Kim remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail. An arraignment hearing in this matter has been set for March 11 in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
