Youth Sports Leagues Making Use of New Soccer Fields at The Ranch; Big Bear City Park to Get Upgrades for September 19 Re-Opening

The three new regulation-size soccer fields at The Ranch Sports Complex are already getting good use, as the Big Bear Valley Youth Soccer League began play on the Erwin Lake-area fields this weekend, and Big Bear Youth Football is practicing there as well. The Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District has, in addition to the recent upgrades at The Ranch, plans to improve the former Big Bear City Park. Per Rec and Park’s Reese Troublefield, “County Supervisor Neil Derry wants us to renovate the area outside of the runway protection zone, and landscape the area inside the RPZ and keep it as low-use as possible, so it isn’t an eyesore and a dustbowl for the neighborhood.” Amenities at the Big Bear City Park will include open fields for use at the south end, a passive area with picnic shelter, and improved restrooms, all of which will be available when, come September 19 at 10am, the Recreation and Park District hosts a grand re-opening of the Bear City Park, with Supervisor Derry in attendance. As for the development of Paradise Park, on property owned by the Big Bear City Community Services District, Troublefield tells KBHR that, at this time, staff is still pursuing alternative forms of funding for the park’s completion. For more information on these and other facilities overseen by the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District, the public is invited to attend Rec and Park’s monthly Advisory Commission meeting, to be held at the Big Bear Senior Center at 5pm today.
