Big Bear, Ca, May 17, 2011, 3:00pm – The Big Bear Youth Center, which opened its doors seven months ago, is thriving and has become a home to at least 40 students a week. The Youth Center caters to 6th, 7th and 8th graders, with bus service from elementary schools for 6th graders, and from the middle school for the 7th and 8th graders. Aaron Foor, Director of the Youth Center told KBHR that every day there is a different event for the kids, something active outside, or a fun game inside when its cold. The center is working to become a hub that will connect students and parents with other groups in the community such as Common Ground and the Lighthouse Project. In the future, the youth center hopes to provide tutoring for kids in math and English. This year many events are being planned for the summer including a trip to Magic Mountain, a beach trip and a wakeboard and water ski trip. Students interested in attending are encouraged to stop by the center located next to Community Church by the Lake, or call 866-1564, or go online at bigbearparks.com.
