Big Bear, Ca, November 3, 2011, 3:00pm – The scenic sky chair at Snow Summit will be not be open this weekend as Big Bear Mountain Resorts gears up for the winter season. The mountains have been testing their snowmaking equipment to ensure everything is in working order. Local ski and board shops are also gearing up for the season by getting the latest equipment in stock, and shops like Chains Required is clearing out its summer bicycle stock to make room for winter apparel and gear. The Snow Summit race team is preparing for race season by doing dry land training, and weight training at some of the local gyms. At Mountain Fitness Center over 25 people are taking a seven week class to get their body and mind ready so that they can be ready to ski the first day the slopes are open. The winter chill is definitely in the air as temperatures are set to drop into the high 30’s with a chance of snow this weekend. Residents are encouraged to prepare their vehicles by having snow chains in your car during the winter months.
