We’ve received some rain overnight here in the Big Bear Valley but, atop the resorts, this weather resulted in up to an inch-and-a-half of fresh snow for Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, which now have over a dozen chair lifts open between them. As for our roads, there are no longer chain requirements in place for roads within the Big Bear Valley [as of Friday morning at 8am], though R2 conditions remain in place over the Onyx Summit portion of Highway 38. If in a two-wheel drive vehicle, and traveling on 38 toward Angelus Oaks, chains will be required; four-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels and carrying chains are OK. Also, just a note, Snow Conditions do remain in effect so, still, no parking on city streets or risk having your vehicle towed or ticketed. Motorists are reminded to always carry chains when in the mountains during the winter months, as conditions can change, especially with storms headed our way.
