Big Bear Valley, CA — Valley-wide snow totals are now at 31 inches for the season, given the addition of six inches of snow (though more than a foot atop the ski resorts!) this week. Despite yesterday’s snowfall, school is in session for all BVUSD students today. However, school buses may be running a little behind schedule today, given road conditions. (which, as of Wednesday morning, remain R2; see our road conditions page for specifics). Big Bear Middle School will be released 30 minutes early today; Big Bear High School students will get out 15 minutes early.
In other school news, the school district’s Board of Trustees meet for a board workshop at the BVUSD offices on Moonridge Road this evening. The special start time for this evening’s open session portion of the meeting will be 7:30pm.
The Planning Commission for the City of Big Bear Lake is also scheduled to meet today, to consider a request for the Snowshoe the Bear event to take place in the Village on Saturday, February 6. The Planning Commission meets at 1:15pm in Hofert Hall in the Big Bear Lake Civic Center.
Update: In other news specific to Wednesday, the last mail truck pickup for the Big Bear Valley will be at 3pm, due to the storm. Postal customers will need to make sure that mail is dropped off prior to 3pm to be assured of mail delivery via the U.S. Postal Service truck leaving the mountain this afternoon.
All Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District basketball practices have been canceled for this evening; games are still scheduled for this weekend.
The Big Bear Library will be closing at 3pm today, due to severe weather. Library patrons are asked to call 866-5571 before planning a trip to the library this week, as hours will be weather permitting.
