San Bernardino, CA, March 22, 2013 – The man suspected of starting five wildfires yesterday in Waterman Canyon, Jaried Escobedo, has been charged with arson and bail set at $250,000. The fires in Waterman Canyon above San Bernardino were quickly knocked down Thursday afternoon by firefighters. The suspect, 27-year-old Jaried Escobedo of San Bernardino was treated for injuries he sustained when he was trying to evade police by rolling down a hill.

Initially, it was unclear what charges Jaried Escobedo will face. The 27-year-old from San Bernardino was treated for injuries he sustained when he was trying to evade police. There were plans to book him on an unrelated arrest warrant that charges him with public intoxication according to one official. Fire investigators will decide whether to seek arson charges. Forest Service spokesman John Miller said crews had a hose lay around the burned areas by 5pm Thursday afternoon.
