Mentone, CA, August 11, 2010, 8:00am – The 10-acre Morton Fire that started Monday afternoon, August 9th 2010, off Highway 38 near Mentone has been contained according to John Miller, Information Officer with the US Forest Service and is in the mop up stages. There was, however, an accident with one of the water tenders assigned to the fire. As San Bernardino County Fire Battalion Chief Marc Peebles explains to Kbear, water tender #99 from the Forest Falls station was delivering water to the fire on service road 1N12 when the tender rolled 100 feet down the side of the hill with two firefighters in the vehicle. They were able to extricate themselves and call for assistance. The firefighters had no obvious injures but were taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and observation. They were treated and released before returning to duty. Plans are in place to recover the vehicle and the accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire
