Big Bear, Ca, September 28, 2011, 12:00pm – Vicky Melton and Lynn Suhay can now check doing a triathlon off their bucket list after this past weekend. The long time friends who are both in their early 60’s competed in their first ever triathlon at Bonnelli Park in San Dimas on Sunday, September 25th. The two women have competed in 5k fundraisers, and Melton just completed the Conquer the Cub series, participating in snowshoe, mountain bike, paddle, and running events. Melton and Suhay both started going to Mountain Fitness Center earlier this year when they wanted to stay active in the winter months. Michelle Russell, the front desk manager at the gym encouraged the ladies to do their first triathlon and they did. Suhay and Melton both told KBHR that the swim was the hardest part for both of them, and that they really enjoyed the bike and run/ walk portions. Both finished the triathlon in under three hours, which was a goal for the ladies, and both told KBHR they would do it again! Sixty one year old George Crezee, active Big Bear local, and supporter of getting people of any age and size off the couch, and doing something active through his program Get Off the Couch and Go, was very proud of these ladies telling KBHR “ I am quite proud of Lynn and Vicky in their accomplishments for participating and finishing their very first triathlon, being that they are in their 60’s and just started training for the event 90 days ago.” Crezee further added, “if two women in their 60s can do a triathlon in 90 days, you can surely do something for yourself regardless of your age.” Vicky and Lynn both were on the podium, with Vicky placing first in her age group followed closely by Lynn. KBHR congratulates the ladies, and encourages more people to follow in their footsteps.
