Big Bear, Ca, September 7, 2011, 8:00am – According to the Big Bear Sheriffs Department, thefts from vehicles in the Big Bear area have been on the rise over the past month. Nearly all of the recent thefts have occurred from unlocked vehicles with valuables inside the car that were in plain view. The Sheriff’s Department encourages residents to minimize their chances of becoming a victim by taking a few simple steps: keep car doors, windows and sunroofs closed and locked, never leave valuables in your vehicle, park your vehicle in well-lit areas, do not leave your keys in your vehicle, and do not leave cash or change in the cup holder. Deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station are actively working all investigative leads on the recently reported thefts from vehicles. All suspicious activity in progress should be immediately reported by calling 9-1-1. Suspicious activity may include a person looking into parked cars, vehicles driving slowly at night without their lights on, the sound of breaking glass and car alarm(s), or anything else that seems out of the ordinary. Anonymous tips can also be reported by contacting WETIP at (800) 78-CRIME.
