Big Bear, Ca, July 7, 2011, 1:00pm – The United States Adaptive Recreation Center has started their summer season programs. This summer, those with disabilities can enjoy Big Bear Lake along with their friends and family. USARC offers instruction in waterskiing, jet skiing, fishing, sailing, and kayaking with modified and standard watercraft. The United States Adaptive Recreation Center is committed to guiding people with disabilities toward the creation and affirmation of rewarding lifestyles by: facilitating challenging and adventurous recreational programming, confronting limitations resolutely and educationally, and by developing independence through a cooperative reliance on others. Summer and winter activities are due in large part to USARC special events such as Peak to Peak and the winter Ski-a- Thon. Peak-to-Peak is a five-day bike ride from Big Bear Lake to Mammoth in which participants have to raise at least $1500. Many locals are participating in this year’s Peak to Peak including Michelle Russel, Kathy Portie, and Tina Follett. For more information on USARC’s summer events, or on how to sign up for one of their summer sessions go to www.USARC.org.
