Big Bear, Ca, May 11, 2011, 1:00pm –This is n update regarding the Momyer Fire, which began on May 8th at approximately 10:30 a.m. The fire is currently burning in the San Gorgonio Wilderness Area in steep, rugged terrain in a north/north east direction, west of Alger Creek and north of the Momyer Trail, and is currently 50% contained. Yesterday, cloudy conditions grounded the aircraft for a second day and made it difficult for firefighters to see the perimeter of the fire. According to San Bernardino National Forest personnel, clearer skies today will allow helicopter use to provide water drops, crew transport, and reconnaissance of the fire perimeter. Firefighters will continue to construct a line around the fire and gain access to spot fires to the east.
