Big Bear, Ca, June 14, 2011, 4:00pm – “Fishin for 50k” took place this past weekend with 677 entrants who competed in the two day fishing tournament. The weekend was filled with great weather, perfect for time on the lake, and an ideal time to catch a fish worth 50 grand. According to tournament director Alan Sharp, over 1,000 people gathered at the awards ceremony on Sunday at Big Bear Marina to see who caught the largest fish. The largest fish of the day was caught by Robert Kimura of Los Angeles, who caught a 9.61 pound trout. Maria Leverett of Victorville caught the largest trout for the adult ladies with a 7.67 pound trout. The Junior winners were Robert Ash of Sugarloaf with a catch of 2.18 pounds, and Kyleigh Villa of Palm Springs with her catch of 2.01 pounds. 15 year old David Kateman of Sugarloaf reeled in a tagged trout, and hoped that it was the one worth $50,000, however it was the lucky fish. Kateman walked away with a wide array of prizes including a new fishing rod and reel, and local gift certificates. Nine tagged trout remain in Big Bear Lake, however the added value of the tag has gone, and anglers will have to try their hand next year and fish for 50k.
