In terms of roads for this Saturday’s marathon event, those traveling in the vicinity of the lake on the 12th should be aware that vehicle traffic will flow only ‘counter-clockwise,’ because the inside lane around Big Bear Lake will be closed for the race. All businesses will remain accessible, however motorists are asked to use extreme caution when crossing the course. Law enforcement agencies will be staffed at key locations and, as always, their instructions are to be followed. The only hard closure on Saturday will be on Sandalwood (just behind Vons at the Interlaken Center); residential streets on the half-marathon course include Fox Farm (west of Sandalwood), Wren, Park and Knight in the Eagle Point area. Although the course runs along Stanfield Cutoff, traffic lanes will be open in both directions. Traffic restrictions, given the Run the Bear Marathon, will be in effect from 5am to roughly 3pm on Saturday. Motorists are advised to plan for additional travel time in the vicinity of the lake, as the race course will go around Big Bear Lake in a clockwise direction, starting at Pine Knot Landing, wrapping around to Sandalwood, and then back to Pine Knot. Residents in the most impacted areas should have received a postcard mailer from the Lighthouse Project, outlining these specifics.
