Tour de Big Bear attracts 2000 Riders and Supporters

Big Bear Lake, CA July 31, 2015 – As many as 2000 visiting and local cyclists will take to the streets this Saturday to participate in this years annual Tour de Big Bear ride.  If you wanted to ride, it may be hard to jump in now as the Big Bear Cycling Association recently announced that the event is sold out except for the possibility of cancellations.  The Big Bear Village at Pine Knot and Village Drive will be a hub of activity throughout the weekend.  Saturday’s staggered starts are scheduled to begin with the 100 miler’s rolling off at 7:15 followed by the 70 mile at 7:45; the 50 mile at 8:15; and the 25 mile riders beginning their ride at 8:45 am.   If you are not riding, be aware the temporary road closures in the Village.  And, for all drivers, be aware of the large number of riders that will be present on Highway 18 and 38 from Snow Valley on the west end to Baldwin Lake, Onyx Summit and Jenks Lake on the east end.  The new California law requires that drivers give three feet spacing between them and the person on a bicycle.  So if you need to travel Saturday you may want to give yourself a little extra time to navigate what is expected to be crowded mountain highways.  With mandatory cut off times for riders, the course will be completely clear by 5:00 pm.  This very popular summer event attracts riders and their families from all over Southern California to enjoy our cool mountain air along with the Big Bear Cycling Festival.
