Tour Bus Crash Results in Fatalities and Closure of Hwy 38

Yucaipa, CA, February 3, 2013 – UPDATE: 11:24PM – The driver of the tour bus reported a problem with the brakes prior to Sunday night’s accident on Highway 38 that has already claimed the lives of 8 people and has left many others injured, some serious.  The tour bus was returning to Tujana, Mexico, from Big Bear.  UPDATE: 10:27PM – Caltrans is reporting that Highway 38 will be closed in both directions for an unknown duration that could be up to 24 hours.  Acccording to the Press-Enterprise, three fatalities have been confirmed in a tour bus crash on Highway 38 about a mile east of Bryant Street with another 27 people reported with injuries.  The crash happened at 6:30pm this evening when the bus collided with a tractor-trailer going the wrong way according to emergency responders.  Caltrans has closed Highway 38 between Bryant and Valley of the Falls.  Travelers are advised to take Highway 18 to Highland or Highway 18 to Lucerne Valley at this time.
